1. Kitakyushu City Coming of Age Ceremony

The Coming of Age Ceremony has significant cultural importance, and in Japan it is considered to be the first step into adulthood.

Date/Time: January 12th (Sun) 11:30~12:30 (Reception starts at 10:30)

Venue: Kitakyushu Media Dome (Mihagino 3, Kokurakita-ku)

Admission requires the invitation postcard (sent at the beginning of December) or other form of identification to prove ones date of birth, ie. student ID, national health insurance card etc.

2. Application for School Supplies Subsidy

Financial assistance to partially cover the expenses necessary for school admission will be provided for those whose children are entering municipal elementary and junior high schools and prefectural junior high and secondary schools (lower secondary part) next April.

Application Deadline: January 31st (Fri)

Eligible Households: Those exempted from municipal inhabitant tax and/or receiving child rearing allowance

1. Exhibition of Newly Acquired Original Manga Drawings

A series of original paintings exhibitions by manga artists associated with Kitakyushu city, which have been newly stored and begun to be put in order this fiscal year.  The first exhibition now under way is by Kunitomo Yasuyuki.

Date/Time: Until January 9th (Thurs) 11:00~19:00 (Last admission: 18:30)

2. The 31st Senbatsu Ladies Ekiden Kitakyushu

A unique competition where top runners from company teams, universities, and high schools actively participating in the medium-to-long-distance athletics in Japan, will compete against each other on the same course. Traffic controls will be implemented on the day of the event.

1.    Winter Special Exhibition “A Large Collection ~ Our Life and Nature Told by Things”

A display of about 400 items carefully selected from donations.

Date/Time: Until February 11th (Tues/National Holiday) 9:00~17:00 (Admission until16:30)

2. Kokura Toka Ebisu, God of Wealth Festival – Miss Ebisu Palanquin Parade

A tradition thought to bring good fortune that dates back 70 years.  Miss Ebisu, dressed as a geisha, will parade the streets on a palanquin wishing fortune upon the businesses of the town.

Date/Time: January 10th (Fri) 10:00~17:00
