Indian Culture Event
Introducing Indian culture to elementary school students.
|
|
On 24th February, we held an event here at the KIA named "marugoto indo taiken", meaning "experience everything Indian". This event was a chance for local elementary school students to learn more about authentic Indian cuisine, art, music, dress, dance and games.
In the cooking class, we made "ladoo", a traditional Indian coconut snack and some "chai", an Indian tea. The children also had a go at "rangoli", which is a form of Indian craft where people use coloured sand to make a variety of colourful patterns. The children were also able to try on some authentic Indian dress such as "sari" and "turbans". At the end, we all joined together and had a go at some contemporary Indian dancing, and played "kabbadi", a popular playground game in India.
Along with the Indian ALTs who kindly gave up their time to help with the event, we were also joined by people from China, Korea, England, America, Canada, New Zealand and France, making it a truly international event.
Here are some photos from the event. |
